Remember
the retinal scans in Star Trek? Technology is
becoming available for security protocols to deny PC
access to anyone who can't authorize his or her use
with a retinal scan, a fingerprint, a palm print, a
facial scan, a voiceprint, or, farther down the
road, a DNA scan. While the face recognition
products on the shelves now are unreliable, voice
scanners are becoming almost common, a reportedly
reliable fingerprint scanner is primed to hit the
market, and actual retinal scanners are already in
use in high-level corporate and government
installations. Microsoft has recently announced that
biometric security features will be part of new
Windows systems. Stop thinking Star Trek and
start thinking The X-Files - or The Real
World.
