Not the new bad guy in
Quake, OROM is a new storage technology called
"optical read-only memory." Designed to hold music,
video games, and PIM software, OROM is a creation from
the fellows at Ioptics that may well do for handheld
devices what the CD did for desktop systems, according
to the CEO of Ioptics. OK, so what else is he going to
say? OROM can give handheld devices up to 128mb of
storage on an itty bitty diskette. OROM promises low
cost, comparatively large storage capacity, and
portability. Ioptics has released devices for the
consumer market, but until they find a way to make OROM
disks rewriteable, they may never be much more than a
curiosity. Satisfy your curiosity at www.ioptics.com/.
