EZ Wizard 3.12 is a small utility which enables monitor power management using a simple Wizard-style interface. It allows the user to set the inactivity-time before the monitor blanks (10, 15 or 20 minutes) and therefore determine the power cost savings. While this can be done through the Control Panel, this program is a good bit simpler (and can even be run by remote access through the author's Web site). FirstStop WebSearch 2.0 is a Copernic- or WebFerret-like program that hunts up to 12 selected search engines for your convenience. Free from www.firststopwebsearch.com/.

FlashCard 2.4 is an educational tool that lets you organize your study materials into multimedia flash cards. $10 from www.memorize.com/.

FlashQuiz 2 is a freebie from www.pcmag.com/utilities/ that lets teachers, human resources folks, and parents create quizzes for self-test purposes. The new version offers network access, cross-platform support, and the ability to mix various kinds of questions into a single quiz. FOLDOC Offline Browser 1.0 is an offline version of the online FOLDOC dictionary (FOLDOC stands for the Free On-line Dictionary of Computing). Free Raw Print 1.0 is a tool which sends raw print (.PRN) files directly to a Windows printer. It is suitable for transferring the raw print file to another computer and printing it from there. ID-Blaster Plus 2.0 allows you to edit Windows Product ID or UserID numbers. Since these numbers are unique for each PC, they could potentially be used to track computer activity or associate a computer with a particular person (even though their actual purpose is quite different). ID-Blaster Plus works by changing these ID numbers frequently, destroying potential tracking tactics using these numbers. KatMouse 1.01 is a mouse wheel enhancement utility that adds useful functionality to your wheel mouse. It overcomes the requirement that the window must have keyboard focus in order for the scroll wheel to work, and in addition allows for quick switching between active and inactive windows by pressing the wheel button. You can scroll most windows page-wise by holding the wheel button over the window and clicking the left (up) or right (down) mouse button. Mouse Odometer 3.1. This little oddity measures the virtual miles your mouse travels as you perform your computer tasks. With every mile it travels, you get a Web address that lets you post your name for recognition and download a background for your desktop. In the "useless but fun" category comes MouseCount 1.2, which counts the number of times you click your mouse. Maybe it's of use for computer usage studies, ergonomics, repetitive stress measurement, and more, but slobs like us won't use it for anything more than curiosity. NetUnits 1.7.1 is a small online time management tool. Its specialty is to grant a computer user a certain amount of NetUnits, minutes of computer use, every seven days. The user can click on the desktop icon to find out how many NetUnits are left. The parent or NetUnit administrator uses the NetUnits Control Panel to adjust the time per week by user using the dropdown box. Noisy Keyboard 3.0 lets you assign sounds to every keystroke. The idea is to recreate that warm and fuzzy sensation of typing on an old Remington portable. Office Assistant: Earl the Cat replaces Microsoft's annoying Office Assistant with Earl, a cat with attitude. Earl guides you through the brambles and snarls of MS Office while fighting with sharks and monsters, crossdressing, and pushing up daisies for your entertainment.
